PLASTIC YARN POM POMS

Pom Poms made from up-cycled plastic bags

We love making crafts from up-cycled materials. These pretty pom pom decorations are made from strips of plastic bag. You could use your pom poms to make a garland for birthday party or as Christmas decorations. You could add them to a up-cycled jewellery project or maybe use then like a bow on wrapped presents.

MATERIALS:

  • Plastic bags
  • String
  • Small piece of cardboard
  • Scissors

HOW TO:

Begin by cutting up the plastic bag into a long strip of PLARN (plastic yarn). To do this, cut the bottom off the bag making a tube, then starting at the bottom cut one long continuous strip of plastic about 1.5cm wide going around and around your plastic bag tube.

Cut a piece of cardboard about 10cm wide. Wrap your PLARN around the cardboard making a thick bundle. Remove the bundle of PLARN from the cardboard and tie in the middle with string. Then cut the looped ends of the plastic, fluff up your pom pom and trim any longer ends to make a neat pom pom.
