SEWING MACHINE EMBROIDERY
This was one of those spontaneous child-led projects that turned out to be totally awesome. I had my sewing machine out to fix some clothes and both my children asked to have a go. So I set them up with a piece of fabric as a base, colourful fabric shapes and let them explore. They both loved it and kept coming back for more for a few days.
MATERIALS:
- Sewing machine
- Thick fabric for a base - we used denim
- Fabric scraps
- Coloured cotton thread
HOW TO:
I set the sewing machine up on our craft table with a small stool so my children could reach the foot pedal on the floor. We used a thick piece of fabric to sew onto to make it easier to maneuver through the machine. I gave them a quick demonstration and left them to it. There were a few jams but they soon figured it out! They even worked out a system with one doing the foot pedal and the other guiding the fabric.
