ELMER ELEPHANT COSTUME
This is one of my all time favourite projects we have made together recently, this Elmer Elephant costume will be a fantastic book week costume!
I was going to make a plain old grey elephant but realised we had run out of grey paint so my 4yr old came up with the idea to paint him like Elmer!
MATERIALS:
- Large cardboard box plus some extra cardboard for the head
- Cord or ribbon for the straps
- Paints
- Hot glue gun
- Craft knife
HOW TO:
Open up your large cardboard box and lay it flat. Cut 2 body size holes in the bottom and top of your cardboard box. Then glue the box back together securing all the flaps. It there is lots of print on the outside of the box I usually turn it inside out so you have a blank canvas for painting.
Cut your ears and head shapes from your extra cardboard leaving tabs on each so they can be glued onto the body. I cut 2 head shapes and glued them together to make it extra strong. Draw a checkered pattern onto the box and head to give guidelines for where to paint and start decorating your Elmer in rainbow colours.
One the paint was dried we attached the head and ears then made a tail from woven cord. Glue the cord or ribbon to the inside of the top hole to create straps.
