Toilet roll castle
We love making crafts out of materials form our household recycling. Not only are the materials free, I also feel it teaches kids resourcefulness. You don't need fancy or expensive materials to be creative and make something fun to play with. The humble toilet roll is awesome for building with!
MATERIALS:
- Cardboard tubes
- Other boxes or cardboard from your household recycling
- Masking tape or washi tape
- Paper straws
- Coloured paper
- Scissors
- Glue
HOW TO:
Begin by making 3 walls for your castle by joining 5 toilet tubes together. Initially we used washi tape to join or tubes but found this wasn't very secure and ended up gluing them together. Hot glue is easiest to use but PVA would also work of you have time to wait for them to dry. As an alternative to washi tape, you could use masking tape which is cheaper and more secure.
To make the turrets for our castle we used 4 taller paper towel cardboard tubes. We cut holes to make windows and turrets around the top edge.
Assemble your 3 walls and turrets to make your castle shape by gluing or taping the walls together. For the front entrance of your castle, add 2 short rolls with a box across the top to create a doorway. We used a cheese box to make an archway but another toilet roll or piece of cardboard would work fine.
Now make some flags for your castle and you're are finished!
