Portraits with kids

Kids portraits art project

This portrait project if a fun an easy way to get kids engaging with their emotions and talking about there likes, dislikes, what they enjoy or how they feel. Beginning with a picture of your little one gives them a starting point. We then spoke about things that we enjoy, what we are good at and things that define our personalities. For little ones this could be as simple as their favourite colours, foods or toys.

I then set out a range of art materials including paints, markers, glue, old magazines, maps, fabric scraps and yarn. We then set about interpreting those things about our personalities onto paper to create our portraits.

MATERIALS:

  • A photo for your little one printed out onto A4 paper
  • A sheet of A3 cartridge paper or card
  • Colouring materials including paints markers, wax crayons or coloured pencils
  • Collage materials including coloured paper, yarn, magazines, maps or fabric scraps
  • Glue
  • Scissors

HOW TO:

Begin by printing out a photo of your child, cutting it out and sticking it onto your A3 sheet of thick paper or cardboard. Then get creative with all your art supplies to create your portraits.
