PARTY CROWNS

homemade kids party crown with feathers

We have made these crowns many times at our kids craft workshops and events; they are a winner every time. There is minimal preparation required, just cutting strips of cardboard and setting out a beautiful invitation to create with lots of colourful craft materials. It's amazing how different all the children's crowns turn out presented with the same set of craft materials. I love seeing the creativity of children in action!

MATERIALS:

  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Paint or marker pens to decorate
  • Items to decorate like feathers, pipe cleaners, old paintings/paper cut up, bottle tops, popsicle sticks, pom poms
  • PVA glue
  • Stapler or tape

DIRECTIONS:

Cut strips of cardboard across the grain of the corrugated cardboard (so the holes in the cardboard are visible along the edges of the crowns) to make the base for your crowns. I found that 60cm strips fit around most heads. Decorate your crowns with paint, collage, pipe cleaners, feathers and anything else you have to hand. Once you are finished decorating, staple the crown together so it fits on your head.
