Today we went treasure hunting in our local op shop and found lots of fun small parts to build these cool junk robots. Encouraging kids to re-purpose old toys and other bits and bobs is not only great for our planet, it also requires creative thinking to see new possibilities beyond the original purpose, helping our children become the resourceful inventors our future will need.
If you love this project but don't have the materials, check out our fun kids CRAFTS BOXES, our LOOSE PARTS CONSTRUCTION CRAFT BOX includes all the materials you need to make JUNK ROBOTS plus lots of other fun crafts.
- Large wooden blocks for body
- Smaller old wooden building blocks
- Old toys like dominoes, lotto tokens or large plastic screws
- Various screws, nuts, bolts and washers.
- PVA wood glue or a hot glue gun
- Screw driver
These are the things we found but you could get creative and use whatever you have to hand.
The boy assembled how he wanted the robots to look then I helped him to either screw or glue the parts together.
