JET PACK and SPACE HELMET

To infinity and beyond. With a cardboard box on your head and a little imagination you are ready for any adventure. Pyjamas and a sparkly green skirt are not 100% necessary but do make the adventure a little more interesting!
MATERIALS:
- One 'head sized' cardboard box and a smaller box for the jet pack
- Craft knife and scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Items to decorate your helmet and jet pack like paints, coloured paper, pipe cleaners, washi tape
- Cardboard tubes and other bits from your household recycling
- Thick cardboard
- Elastic
HOW TO:
To make the jet pack, I cut 2 wing shapes from thick cardboard using a craft knife. We glued the wings to the box and added elastic straps. To make the jet boosters, we used cardboard tubes and coloured paper to make the flames.
The space helmet was made from a cardboard box, I used a nappy box and turned it inside out so the boy had a plain cardboard box to decorate. I cut the end off and a round hole in the front and he decorated it washi tape, pipe cleaners and tubes. Our helmet included a communication system and oxygen tank.
My boy loved making and playing with this space helmet and jet pack so much (he is VERY into all things space), that we decided to make a new version and include it in my first kids craft book UNBOXED: Adventures in cardboard.
