FOLDED PAPER ART

This is one of the projects we recently tried from the fantastic kids art book ART WORKSHOP for CHILDREN by the lovely Barbara Rucci of @artbarblog.
After trying out most of the projects from Art Workshop for Children, I really love and wholeheartedly recommend this beautiful art activity book. The book offers a child-led approach to art which cultivates creative thinking and encourages the wonder that comes when children are allowed to freely explore the creative process and their materials. As children work through these open-ended workshops, adults are guided on how to be facilitators who provide questions, encourage deep thinking, and help spark an excitement for discovery. I love that the majority of the project ideas use simple art supplies, like this folded paper project, but use those materials in interesting and creative ways.
MATERIALS:
- Water colour paper or thick cartridge paper
- Thick cardboard
- Liquid water colours or water colour paints
- Wax crayons or oil pastels (optional)
- Coloured washi tape or masking tape
HOW TO:
Begin by cutting a cardboard base for your artwork, ours measured 30 x 30cm. Cut your paper into strips and fold in a concertina. Decorate your folded paper using paints; we used these beautiful natural pigment watercolour paints.
Once your paint has dried, it time to get creative composing your artwork by attaching the folded paper to the base for your artwork using colourful tape. You can also add extra details using crayons or oil pastels at this time.
Happy art making friends!
