Collage Pizza

This project really surprised me. Initially I thought it was a bit of a silly idea and too simple for the age of the children at the workshop I was hosting, but I was wrong, they had so much fun building their pizza creations. The best part came after when the project led into spontaneous imaginative play setting up a pizza shop!

The workshop was held at our home education co-op meet up where each term we celebrate the culture of a different country through art activities, food and learning about history and culture.

MATERIALS:

• Cardboard cut into circles for pizza bases
• Red paint and brushes
• Collage materials in different colours and shapes to represent different pizza toppings
• Yellow yarn cut into short lengths
• Glue

HOW TO:

Cut lots of circular pizza bases from corrugated cardboard either by drawing around a plate and cutting them out, or using a laser cutter if you have one available.

Next prepare all your collage materials but cutting up coloured paper into different shapes. Think pink squares for ham, long yellow strips for cheese, round red tomatoes, green chunks for pepper, brown mushroom shapes, green leaf shapes for basil, black ovals for olives or yellow wedge shapes for pineapple.

We also used yellow yarn cut into short lengths as cheese and used lots of small paper chads that I had collected from our hole punch as seasoning!

Set all your materials out, along with red paint and glue, like a pizza making buffet and get making!
