Cardboard Haunted House

Cardboard Haunted House

We love a craft project made from cardboard boxes and this spooky haunted house is a variation on this classic shoe box dolls house or larger multi level cardboard dolls house, except with Halloween themed decor!

All of the cardboard materials came from our recycling bin with the addition of a few simple craft supplies like paints, coloured paper and hot glue.

MATERIALS:

  • Cardboard she boxes or mailer boxes
  • Cardboard tubes
  • Coloured card
  • Hot glue
  • Paints
  • Craft knife and scissors
  • Pipe cleaners (optional)
  • Acrylic paint pens (optional)
  • Printer paper
  • Halloween crafts printable activity sheets

HOW TO:

Begin by constructing your cardboard box house shape. To do this, we joined a shoe box and a mailer box together. The lid of the shoe box opens outwards, with the hinge at the bottom to reveal the inside of the box. We cut windows and doors with a craft knife and added cardboard tube towers and turrets.

On the inside of the shoe box, we added a cardboard divider to create 2 floors for our dolls house construction. The floor was supported by cardboard tabs attached with hot glue.

Next we painted our house in Halloween colours; black on the outside and purple inside. Get creative with your own spooky house colour choices!

We created pointed cone-shaped roofs using coloured card. To do this we cut a circle of card, cut a slit to the middle, then folded and glued the card into a cone shape. We then attached the cones onto the top of the turrets using hot glue.

To finish our haunted dolls house, we added decorations using acrylic paint pens, pipe cleaners, coloured card and spooky bits from our Halloween crafts printable activity sheets. We even made a cute little spider using pipe cleaners!
For the final spooky touch, we added LED light inside our haunted house!

Happy Halloween my crafty friends!
