We love creative activities that also include engineering skills. These houses made with sticks, elastic bands and strips of old fabric are a fantastic STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) activity for kids. For younger children you could just begin with making 2D shapes, for older children progress to making 3D structures.
This project is also great for developing fine motor skills wrapping the elastic bands around the stick.
Once you have finished building your stick houses, they make great homes for fairies to move into!
- Elastic bands
- Strips of fabric, cord or ribbon
Begin by making 2D shapes using the sticks, securing them together using elastic bands. We then made a 3D teepee shape and a triangular A frame structure. To decorate your houses we wove through strips of fabric and cord.
