ROCKET BOX

Simple DIY rocket fancy dress costume

This DIY rocket fancy dress costumes is one of the easiest homemade dress ups costumes we have ever made and definitely the most fun. My children love putting it on and pretending they are blasting off into space!

Engaging in dramatic play is an important part of early childhood development. Young children learn by imagining and doing. The process of pretending helps grow skills in many essential developmental areas. Social interaction at a young age is the basis of healthy relationship building. Cooperative play helps foster empathy and understanding of others feelings. Playing develops language skills; cognitive, creative and critical thinking abilities that will be useful in every aspect of their lives. It is also lots of fun!

Before we get into the making, I wanted to THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for visiting MINI MAD THINGS. All the crafts I share here on the blog are pretty much just made for the love of making things with my children. Even if I didn't have a craft blog, we would still be happily making together around our kitchen table. It is just the icing on the cake that I can share our ideas with YOU through our website and INSTAGRAM page. I feel like the luckiest person in the world to have a business that I'm truly passionate about. So next time you are looking for a creative, thoughtful and eco-friendly gift for the little people in your life, it would be totally awesome if you could keep our range of fun kids CRAFT KITS, ART BOOKS and ECO ART SUPPLIES in mind. You can see our full range of MINI MAD THINGS products HERE.

MATERIALS:

  • A body sized cardboard box
  • Craft knife
  • Tape
  • Marker pen
  • Items to decorate the rocket which could include paints, coloured markers, stickers or materials to collage

HOW TO:

Begin by dismantling the box and lay it out flat. I used the inside of the box to make a blank canvas for drawing the rocket. Cut out a circle face hole in the front and arm holes in each side using a craft knife.

Cardboard box to make a rocket dress up costume

Draw the rocket shape on the front of the box and then decorate. We found it easier to decorate the box whilst it was still flat. Then tape the box back together and you are ready to blast off into space!
