JUNK MONSTERS

monster made from cardboard boxes and recycling

If you haven't gathered by now, we love creating using cardboard boxes and household recycling. There is something so freeing for children to create with 'junk' items. When faced with a pristine piece of paper, kids begin to worry about where to start or making a mistake. However, when faced with an old cardboard box they tend to be less precious and just dive into the important job of creating.

'Junk' items have an added bonus of being mostly free!

We made cardboard box monsters as one of the projects for my kids craft book UNBOXED: Adventures in cardboard and we loved them so much, we decided to make more. Here are our latest family of monster friends!

MATERIALS:

  • Cardboard boxes and items from your household recycling like TP rolls or egg cartons.
  • Glue - Hot glue and craft glue
  • Collage materials to decorate such as patterned paper, pom poms, yarn scraps or wooden craft sticks
  • Paints

HOW TO:

It's pretty simple really, just arrange a fun selection of small boxes and recycling, then let your little ones begin building their monsters. We use a hot glue gun for construction as it is quick and you don't have to wait for the glue to dry!
